Le 16 octobre dernier, à Kpélé dans la commune rurale de Malba (localité située à environ 40 km de Gaoua), 9 personnes d’une même famille ont trouvé la mort après avoir consommé un plat de tô accompagné d’une sauce de feuilles de sisal. Sur les 9 victimes, 7 ont été inhumées au domicile familial, les deux autres évacuées d’urgence aux Centre hospitalier régional de Gaoua ont finalement rendu l’âme également le lundi et mardi (19 et 20 octobre 2020). Sur instructions du procureur près le tribunal de grande instance de Gaoua, les dernières personnes décédées seront transportées à Ouagadougou pour une autopsie.
Les faits datent du 16 octobre dernier dans une famille du village de Kpélé. Dans cette famille, comme il est de coutume, les coépouses après la cuisine servent le repas aux enfants qui mangent ensemble. Une des coépouses avait fait du tô à la sauce de sisal. Bohimi Kambou, élève en classe de 6e, un des rescapés qui a transporté les victimes au CSPS de Malba raconte les faits. « Vendredi soir, notre tante à cuisiné le tô et ma maman un plat communément appelé ‘’faro’’.
A l’heure du diner, certains ont mangé le tô et la sauce. Et d’autres comme moi avions mangé le faro parce que la sauce n’était pas de notre goût. La nuit il n’y a eu aucun problème. C’est le samedi matin vers 6h que nous avions constaté que la coépouse de ma mère convulsait. Apeurés, nous avons fait appel aux voisins. Elle vomissait beaucoup, au même moment son enfant est tombé aussi. J’ai conduit la coépouse de ma maman au CSPS. De là-bas on m’a appelé pour dire qu’il y a d’autres cas. En tout cas, tous ceux qui ont mangé la sauce sont tous morts.
Désemparée, la coépouse de la défunte cuisinière qui a fait la sauce, s’interroge sur les causes réelles de cette situation. « Nos enfants sans distinction mangent habituellement nos plats. La nuit nous n’avons pas eu de soucis. Le lendemain matin celle qui a cuisiné la sauce était souffrante, de même que les enfants. Nous sommes allés au CSPS espérant trouver solution mais peine perdue » a-t-elle expliqué.

L’hypothèse d’une intoxication aux pesticides
Les intoxiqués ont été pris en charge au CSPS de Malba et au Centre hospitalier régional de Gaoua. Le chef de service de la pédiatrie du CHR de Gaoua, Yacouba Cissé, indique que cette situation d’intoxication a posé beaucoup de problème à son équipe. Les malades ont été pris en charge intensément de 15h à 1 h du matin. Le cas est complexe, ajoute-t-il. « Il fallait d’abord trouver le type d’intoxication. Au regard des signes, l’hypothèse d’une intoxication au pesticide est privilégiée, mais le type de pesticide reste pour le moment inconnu. Il faut dire que les pesticides ont une action très violente sur le cerveau, ce qui fait que quand nous avons reçu ces enfants, ils étaient d’emblée, dans un état de coma, des convulsions, des difficultés respiratoires, une déshydratation sévère, des vomissements ».

Au regard de la dangerosité des pesticides, Dr Cissé appelle les populations à en faire un bon usage, surtout en les éloignant des enfants.
